How To Take Advantage of Giving Tuesday During Covid-19

Giving Tuesday is an awesome opportunity to generate both awareness and donations for your nonprofit organization. This year, Giving Tuesday is on December 1, 2020 and was created back in 2012 to encourage people to do good deeds for others, and now is a global movement that inspires folks to give, volunteer, collaborate, and celebrate generously. Everyone can participate in this special day of giving, especially nonprofits, and especially this year because of the restrictions COVID-19 has put on our person-to-person fundraising programs and events. Here are some tips to take full advantage of the upcoming day of giving.

First things first...

Create Your Overall Campaign: Planning is the key to a successful Giving Tuesday. Consider Giving Tuesday an online event that needs preparation, inspiration, and loads of promoting. Since the majority of this giving day will be online create a campaign in advance that includes:

Website Landing Page: Create a special landing page specifically for Giving Tuesday for prospects to learn more about you and to easily donate. Include robust information about your organization like your mission, stories about how you've helped others, why donations are needed, and testimonials from the community. Include how the pandemic has affected those you serve. Add engaging photos and videos of past events and programs. Create a colorful and clear donate button with a call to action, "Donate Today!" that links them to your PayPal, Venmo, or another payment method.

Email Marketing Campaign:  One of the best assets you have to communicate with your prospective donors is by email. If you haven't subscribed to an email marketing platform like Constant Contact or Mail Chimp, now is a great time to consider starting. Create a series of emails that share information about Giving Tuesday and what your nonprofit is all about. This will to not only inspire prospects to donate but inform them of all the great things you do for their community. Again, use stories, testimonials, photos and other engaging content including a colorful and clear donate button with a call to action, "Donate Today!" that links them to your PayPal, Venmo, or another payment method.

Social Media Posts:  Giving Tuesday is largely an online giving day that will be actively promoted on social media. Create eye-catching content targeting your audience and encourage them to share, tag, and comment on every post. Use your website and email efforts to generate new likes on your social media page. If your target audience uses Facebook, create a Facebook event. If your target audience uses Instagram, create Instagram Stories, etc. Always include a call to action and link a social media post back to your website's landing page. On Giving Tuesday, frequently share who donated and how their support will help your cause and ask your followers to share to keep the exciting momentum going.

Giving Tuesday is a day to celebrate all the good happening in our world. There is still time to participate. Visit the Giving Tuesday's website for helpful templates, designs, and resources.
