3 Tips to Prepare for a Successful Giving Tuesday Campaign

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving established in 2012 to showcase the spirit of giving during the holiday season. This special 24 hour-event provides your nonprofit with an opportunity to engage donors, generate interest in your cause to be part of a worldwide giving experience. This year Giving Tuesday is December 3, 2019. Are you ready? It is estimated that more than $500 million will be generated this year so this is an exciting opportunity to boost your end of year giving.  Here are some tips to create a successful Giving Tuesday, 2019:

1.  Plan Early and Have a Plan: Planning is key to success in any campaign. This event is now well-known and one that you should include in your overall annual marketing campaign. Establish a purpose and a goal that you want to reach and create fun, entertaining content to help you stand out in a worldwide crowd. Some nonprofits stay true to their brand and mission while others will step out of their comfort zone and design something original exclusively for this 24 hour giving event. But the bottom line is to develop a plan and follow it.

Tip: Ask yourself, "who, what, where, when and why?" Determine who you want to inspire, what story you want to tell, where you will promote your message, when you will get the word out and why this one day of giving matters to you. Share your plan with donors, volunteers and the public, so they can spread the word.

2.  Develop Content: Create compelling, relevant content that explains what your organization is all about, how you are making a difference, and why people should donate. Showcase all your wonderful success stories in a personal, heartwarming way. This is an opportunity to tell your story and showcase how you are making a positive difference. Include on your website, blogs, videos, email marketing, social media platforms, and grassroots marketing.

Tip:  Create a landing page specifically for #Giving Tuesday and link content posted on social media to your website, so they can learn even more.

3.  Access the #GivingTuesday Website: There is an entire website devoted to #Giving Tuesday where you can gain access to helpful tools. Resources, ideas, campaign examples and other information are available to help your campaign succeed. Follow their social media accounts for even more ideas.

Tip:   After Giving Tuesday is over, share the results with your supporters through blog posts, thank you messages, emails so you keep everyone engaged and relationships strong.
